Why Working Upstream is Good for You and Your Organization

Most leaders think of themselves as problem solvers. Our clients, customers, friends, family, and colleagues come to us with problems or needs and we deliver solutions. Too often, though, we only solve the symptoms of the problem rather than thinking upstream to address the origins of the problem itself. In this presentation, Ashley will share how shifting to an upstream approach can not only support long-term goals by reducing the probability that these same problems will happen again but will also:

Dr. Ashley Waters is an organizer, maximizer, creator, and evaluator committed to continuous learning and deepening community impact. As the Executive Director of Woman to Woman Mentoring, Ashley is inspired by the work done in her local communities each day and is enthusiastic about supporting individuals and organizations in new challenges and opportunities. She previously served as the Director of UMBC Operations at the University at Shady Grove in Rockville and Communications Manager for The City of Frederick. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Politics from Penn State University, a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Townson University, and a Doctoral degree in Public Administration the The University of Baltimore.

Ashley is very active with many organizations in the local and regional community, currently serving as the President of the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, Public Image Chair for Rotary District 7620, Assistant Zone 33 Rotary Public Image Coordinator, Hood College’s Board of Associate, Vice Chair of the Maryland Public Service Scholars Alumni Board and Co-Chair of Leadership Frederick County’s Leaders on Loan program, just to name a few.

Ashley, her husband, Andrew, and their son, Torin, live in downtown Frederick.
