I’ve been thinking about my goals for 2020, and one word keeps sticking out: simplify. I’m tired of feeling overwhelmed by the many demands on my time and energy. Do you long to simplify your life, too?
Thankfully, we have a ton of helpful resources at our fingertips. Join me in kicking chaos to the curb — let’s embrace peace and positivity instead! Here are a handful of ways to simplify your life and help you end the day feeling accomplished instead of drained:
Use a meal service
If you aren’t already using a meal service, I highly suggest starting one! There are tons to choose from, regardless of your budget and dietary wishes. My family likes Hello Fresh best, and we schedule the service to arrive on weeks we know will be extra busy. It’s easy to pause deliveries and change which meals we want to receive.

Yes, you still have to prep and cook the food. But I find that meal planning can cause decision fatigue fast, and with a meal service I have a limited amount of yummy dishes to choose from. Want to simplify your life? Simplify the way you meal plan and cook!
Utilize a personal assistant
I’m terrible at remembering to set up appointments for my family and dog. I rely on Facebook to remind me of birthdays, and I always have that nagging feeling that I’m forgetting to do something.
Enter a personal assistant service! Personal assistants can help you with just about anything, whether you work with someone local or virtual. You can outsource errand running, appointment making, and even event planning! Are you dreading planning your parent’s anniversary party, or wish your office had more help with their next retreat? If you’ve ever dreamed of having your own life manager, maybe it’s time to make your dreams come true.
Set up a smart home
One fun (yes, fun) way to simplify your life is to make your technology work for you. Investing in smart home products allows you to control everything from your coffee pot, lights, thermostat, music, and even your shopping list. You don’t realize how nice these luxuries are until you have them!
Plus, smart home technology can make your home safer and more energy efficient, not to mention entertaining!
Commit to a decluttering plan
We’ve all been told a hundred times that we need to get rid of our stuff. Have you actually done it? There are a bunch of different ways to go about decluttering. Pick one that works for you, and give yourself a deadline. I find that asking for accountability helps.
Try doing a decluttering challenge with a friend, or post about your experience on social media. Everyone loves a before and after picture — take a shot of your crammed pantry, for example, set a timer for 30 minutes, get to work, then show off your newly organized space!
Set yourself up to smile
What are the pain points in your day? Is it your morning commute, doing the dishes, answering emails, or folding laundry? (Or all of the above?) All of these tasks can feel like a drain on our time, and it’s hard to have a good attitude when you’re doing something you dislike. I tried something new last year that has stuck with me, and I think it will simplify your life, too.
Say yes to more of the things that bring you pleasure, and stop wasting negative energy on things that bring you down. Life is meant to be enjoyed!
