Woman To Watch :: Erin Davies

erin davies

Erin Davies is truly changing the game for wedding planning after launched The Wedding Kickstarter during the pandemic. And with a surge in events this year, following all the cancellations of last year, it’s a great time to be on top of the industry! Erin’s approach is different. The Wedding Kickstarter allows clients to work directly with Erin for the first few months, essentially in a full-service capacity, but then after they have set the main details together, she steps back and lets them put the plan in motion. She provides them with a wedding blueprint, a customized timeline, and a budget, and stays available for them for guidance and accountability throughout the process. It’s a more flexible and affordable version of wedding planning, and Erin’s clients are eating it up.

Tell us a little about yourself

After spending over a decade planning celebrity and high-end weddings at agencies and venues, I’m now a consultant that creates a custom blueprint to kickstart the planning process for couples with premium taste. I offer ongoing expertise throughout the process.

How did you get to where you are today?

I had the privilege to get the bulk of my professional training with Rafanelli Events. During my time there we planned Chelsea Clinton’s wedding and Obama’s inauguration events and about a million other high-end fetes. I worked crazy hours but learned from the best in the business how to never settle for less than perfection. After leaving the agency, I discovered a gap in the wedding planning market. I found there are tons of couples who would love access to wedding planning expertise but aren’t in the position to pay 20% of their wedding budget to do so. That’s where I come in. As a wedding consultant I provide my clients with everything they need to get the ball rolling and plan their perfect day, and I’m available to them every step of the way.

What do you think has helped you the most with your success?

My love of the relationship! The human connection is my favorite part of the planning process. I enjoy getting to know a client and figuring out what they need for the perfect day. I get invested and involved with everyone I work with, which makes me constantly strive to deliver a great product. It’s like if your client was your best friend – of course you would want to go the extra mile.

What has been the biggest challenge you have overcome in order to achieve your goals?

The biggest challenge has been trying to stand out in a very saturated market. These days it feels that anyone who ever planned their own wedding will come out and call themselves a “wedding planner.” For me, it was finding a niche that married my favorite part of the process with a gap in the marketplace.

What are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of building my company out of a very dark time. Like many people in the hospitality industry, I lost my job at the beginning of the pandemic. I was stuck trying to homeschool two young children and figure out what I could do next. I’m very proud of the soul searching and the creative birth of my company that came out of this time.

What are three pieces of advice you could give to our readers?

  • Leaning on others for support is necessary
  • Boundaries are EVERYTHING
  • You can love the work you do without falling victim to it
  • Someone not willing to pay your rate doesn’t mean you are worth any less than that. Ok, that’s four.

You inspire us, but what/who are YOU inspired by?

All the moms (and dads) who have made it to the other side of this pandemic. I’ve watched these heroes all around me keep a happy face for their kids while playing parent, teacher, boss, and more, all at the same time. I barely made it through and it wasn’t pretty. I’m in awe of those that did it with grace and used it as a time to make their families even stronger.

How do you reward yourself when you’ve reached a goal or a after a hard day of work?

Wine and cheez-its. Always the sign of a day well spent!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Some days I feel like a boss, some days I feel creative, some days I feel like an entrepreneur, some days I just feel tired, and some days I feel like an imposter. Give yourself permission to spend time in whatever space you are in and remind yourself that tomorrow you’ll feel differently.
