Frederick Speaker Series Presents: Walter Mosley
This Frederick Speaker Series event features Walter Mosley. He is an acclaimed and prolific author whose body of work spans more than 60 books. His genres include mystery, science fiction, young adult, nonfiction, graphic novels, and erotica. He is best known for the Easy Rawlins detective series. It gained widespread recognition with Devil in a Blue Dress, later adapted into a feature film starring Denzel Washington. Mosley revisits the character in Gray Dawn, scheduled for release on September 16, 2025.
Mosley’s work extends beyond literature into film and television. He served as an executive producer and writer for FX’s Snowfall and The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey on Apple TV+, starring Samuel L. Jackson. His novel The Man in My Basement is being adapted into a Hulu thriller film starring Willem Dafoe and Corey Hawkins. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker and Playboy. Additionally, he has received a Grammy Award for his liner notes for a Richard Pryor compilation.
Known for his insight on race, justice, and American society, Mosley draws from his personal background. He grew up in Los Angeles within a Black and Jewish household. He is also the founder of The Publishing Certificate Program at CUNY. This program works to expand access to publishing careers for underrepresented communities.
This presentation is part of the Frederick Speaker Series, now in its 13th season. It is recognized for bringing world-class speakers to the Frederick area and engaging the community through meaningful discourse. Each speaker event includes an optional Meet & Greet experience, available for an additional fee. This offers photo opportunities, signings when possible and light refreshments. Meet & Greet proceeds benefit children’s programming at Frederick County Public Libraries.
