Tell us a little about yourself and your story.

I was born in Detroit and raised in South Florida. Now, I call Portland home, where I live with my husband and three children. I am proud to be the first in my family to earn a college degree. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, I worked in HR. Outside of motherhood, I have a passion for dancing and home sewing, which not only brings me immense joy but also fuels my creativity, bringing me daily inspiration.

How did you get to where you are today?

My journey has been driven by a passion for learning and a commitment to self-improvement. Throughout my school years, I consistently made the honor roll and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Portland State University. This solid academic foundation set the stage for my career in HR, where I honed my skills before choosing to stay at home with our first child. My dedication to personal growth and embracing new challenges, such as learning to balance motherhood and being an entrepreneur, has paved the way for where I am today.

What do you think has helped you the most with your success?

My resilience and ability to adapt to new challenges have been crucial. Equally important has been the unwavering support of my family and friends. Their belief in me has been a constant source of strength and inspiration, making my journey to success all the more meaningful.

What has been the biggest challenge you have overcome in order to achieve your goals?

Maintaining a positive mindset has been my biggest challenge. It’s a continuous work in progress. Every morning, I name three things I am grateful for, no matter how small, like a hot shower. This practice helps bring gratitude into my daily life and squashes negative thinking, allowing me to stay focused and motivated.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of giving birth to our third baby at home, which was my second VBAC (Vaginal Birth After a Cesarean). This life-changing experience taught me that with dedication, preparation, and the right support, I can achieve anything. It also reinforced my belief in the power of resilience and the importance of setting and working towards personal goals.

What are three pieces of advice you could give to our readers?

  1. Surround yourself with like-minded people, and don’t allow toxic people to bring you down or diminish your dreams.
  2. You can give up a thousand times – all that matters is you pick yourself up and try again!
  3. Always make time for self-care. Too often, I pour from a dangerously empty cup. Taking care of yourself is crucial to maintaining the energy and mindset needed to achieve your goals.

You inspire us, but what/who are YOU inspired by?

Ina May Gaskin profoundly inspires me. Her pioneering work in natural childbirth and midwifery guided me through my VBAC birth journeys. She champions women’s strength and capability and believes birth should be a positive and empowering experience. Her dedication to women’s health and birthing rights inspires me to channel our incredible power and resilience.

What is one sassy saying or quote that inspires you? Why?

If nothing goes right, go left. This quote reminds us that we don’t have control over most things. If something isn’t working out, it’s okay to take a different path. This mindset keeps me motivated and empowered, and I hope it does the same for you.
