Welcome to Week 2 of the Sass Wellness Challenge! This week we’re turning up the color on our plates and fueling our bodies with at least 5 cups of fruits and/or vegetables a day. Think of it as daily nourishment that works with your body — supporting steady energy, better digestion and that overall “I’ve got my life together” feeling (even if you’re eating it between meetings).
You’ve heard it forever, but it’s true: eating your fruits and veggies really does matter — and science agrees. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables are linked to a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers, and they support long-term health as we age. They’re packed with fiber to keep you full and satisfied, plus antioxidants and plant nutrients that help protect your cells, support immunity, and keep your body functioning at its best. Translation? More nutrients, fewer crashes, and food that actually shows up for you.
So what counts toward your five cups? Think vibrant salads, snacking on fresh fruit, adding extra veggies to your favorite meals, or even trying frozen or canned varieties (just watch for added sugar or salt). Remember, it’s the combination of fruits and vegetables that adds up to your daily five cups — and every bit helps you get closer to feeling your best!

Week 2 :: Eat 5
In Week 2 of our Sass Wellness Challenge, we challenge you to eat 5 cups of fruits or vegetables each day!
- What constitutes eating 5 cups of fruit or vegetables a day? In general, 1 cup of fruit or ½ cup of dried fruit can be considered as 1 cup from the Fruit Group and 1 cup of raw or cooked vegetables or 2 cups of raw leafy greens can be considered as 1 cup from the Vegetable group. Aim for 2 pieces of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables, or simply make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
- Do I need to eat 5 fruits AND 5 vegetables each day? No, it is combination of the two that add up to 5.
- What if I eat 4 cups of vegetables, do I get credit? No, you must eat 5 cups of fruits and/or vegetables.
- Does Tofu count as a vegetable? No.
- Do French fries count as a vegetable? Sadly, No.
