Summertime is quickly approaching, and you know what that means. Time to have some fun in the sun! Summer can certainly be the best time to enjoy the beach, but it can also be dangerous to your overall well-being. But don’t worry! As a Florida girl through and through, I have a few tips to help you stay cool all summer long.
Wear (and Keep Reapplying) Sunscreen
Listen, if you haven’t experienced the sun’s brutality from a day at the beach, you don’t want to! I may sound like a momma running after her toddler with a bottle of sunscreen, but you know what they say: mother knows best. And this is no exception! APPLY YOUR SUNSCREEN!
Also, make sure you’re applying sunscreen at the right times. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, you should apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going out in the sun and every two hours afterwards. And if you’ve gone in the water, be sure to reapply as soon as you get out. Trust me, I’ve been burned by not listening to this one.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Trust me, all your bodily functions will thank you for following this one. From excess sweat to swimming in the salty ocean, your body is going to need that extra hydration more than ever! Skip the sodas and go for something that will properly hydrate you during your summer fun in the sun.
Bring Something Fun To Do
The beach is ALWAYS fun … for at least five minutes. Depending on how long you’re staying and who you’re with, you might want to have a couple of alternative entertainment sources. Like music? Bring a charged phone and speaker. Want to engage your brain? How about a good summer book, a sudoku, or crossword puzzle?
Listen to Your Body
This one is super important for the success of any summer day! If you listen, your body will usually tell you exactly what it needs. If you feel like your skin is getting hotter than normal, it may be time to find some shade. If your throat is getting dry or you’ve gotten knocked back by a salty wave or two, make sure you’re drinking enough water!
Eliminate Distractions & Enjoy Yourself
And the most important of all: have fun! Take this time to really live in the moment and soak it up. Before you know it, Fall will be here and those summer moments will be a memory – until next year at least!
