Unlocking the Power of Biohacking

My Personal Biohacking Journey

Recently turning 40, I started a deep dive into addressing my ADD, high blood pressure, chronic illness, and getting to the root causes of my symptoms, learning to listen to my body and ultimately better understand my needs, did I mention aslo trying to balance my hormones and lower my cortisol levels.

As I am a firm believer in Holistic wellness, I’ve taken a keen interest in “Biohacking”.  First made popular in the early 90s and really started to get traction when people such as Dave Asprey, widely recognised as the ‘Father of Biohacking, began sharing his own personal transformation and the wealth of knowledge to others when it comes to biohacking.

What Exactly is Biohacking?

“It’s when an individual uses unconventional methods to understand what is happening on a cellular level,” explains Certified Health Expert, Benjamin L. Smith. “This can include processes such as gene editing, drug therapies, and wearable devices that measure different metabolic markers.”

Can Anyone Start Biohacking?

Can someone wake up one morning and spontaneously say, “I want to start biohacking”? Yes, I mean I did. Smith explains that “one just needs the desire and curiosity to understand their biology better. Start with something simple like a wearable device. You can always move into more complex strategies later.”

Supplements and Devices

Supplements I’m Using:

I am currently including Mimio Health into my daily routine, a daily supplement, comprised exclusively of ingredients found naturally in the human body, which when taken regularly mimics the cellular health and longevity benefits of fasting, optimized energy, reduced appetite and cravings, boosted metabolism, improved mood and cognition, enhanced performance and recovery, and healthier aging through the reduction in biological age.

Devices to Enhance Your Biohacking:

  1. Blue light-blocking glasses: “These are critical for your health” he explains. “Because the eyes are not designed to absorb blue light at night. This has to do with evolution and natural sunlight, as there is virtually no blue light at sunset. Being exposed to it throws off your biological clock and potentially causes chronic inflammation.”
  2. Water-Structuring Devices – these are a recent biohacking strategy as they rearrange water molecules to make them more bioavailable to cells.
  3. Oura rings – are wearables that can track everything from skin temperatures to sleep patterns.

Is Biohacking Gender-Specific?

Smith concludes that “there are no major differences in gender when it comes to biohacking. There might be some different markers a woman might be interested in (menstrual cycle) compared to a man. Biohacking is basically for anyone wanting to understand their biology better and be as healthy as possible.”
