Tell us a little about yourself

Most importantly, I’m a wife and a mom, and family comes first. But I’ve also spent 25 years building a career and a personal brand as The Bra Expert, helping and advocating for women through style advice and the proper fitting bra. More recently, I’ve also been an advocate for missing and exploited and abused children in several ways after the horrific kidnapping and subsequent rescue of my sweet little 9-year-old niece.

How did you get to where you are today as The Bra Expert?

My career has taken me on an interesting journey with lots of detours that all led me to here! I started 25 years ago fresh out of college as a broadcast journalist working in tv news. I covered the 9/11 attacks at ground zero in New York City and many other important stories. While working in TV, I began writing for magazines and realized my passion was women’s lifestyle. I’ve always been the go-to person everyone came to for advice so it seemed like the perfect fit, pun intended! That led to transitioning in front of the camera and consulting for brands with marketing strategies. I began to hone in on intimate apparel when I got the idea for The Bra Book in 2006. It’s such an important topic for women and for me personally. Let me tell you, getting a book deal is no easy feat but I did it and the book was so successful, it got a second printing! That led me down the path as The Bra Expert, the go-to source for all things bras. I’ve appeared on nearly every national TV show over the last 15 years. I went on to become spokesperson for SOMA bras on QVC and I even launched my own brand on the home shopping channel during the pandemic as the winner of “The Big Find.” Whenever I hit a roadblock, I always find a way around it. I try to stay positive and upbeat no matter what comes my way. I am very excited to have recently joined the comfort bra brand Truekind as its Chief Brablem Solver. We are working to make it the go-to bra brand for millions of women all over the world!

Who has made an impact on you?

I recently spoke about Madonna’s impact on me as a child because I’d look at how she’d managed to stay relevant for 40 years in an industry that has a super short memory and attention span!!! I realized that it was reinvention….she is an expert at reinventing herself, over and over, as many times as it takes… and reinvention is necessary for relevance.

Oprah was also a big source of inspiration for me. She’s the one who got everyone talking about bras with her big “bra intervention” show in 2005! I was grateful to have spoken with her and told her about my book at a NY Women in Communications event in 2009. I hid behind a pillar (LOL) so I could seize the one and only opportunity she was alone for a brief second. She said, “I’m so glad you wrote this book, it’s SO important for women,” before she was whisked away. That meant so much to me!!!!

My dream is and always has been to have my own talk show like Oprah and to reach millions of women with inspirational stories of other women and advice and to just “talk it out” !!!! I’ve been able to do that with articles and my podcast and speaking events but still hope that this dream will materialize one day!

I also look at other successful women in my field who I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with and these women in specifically have always stayed kind and down to earth, despite major fame and success. That’s important to me!!! Joan Lunden, Kathie Lee Gifford, Tamron Hall, Hoda Kotb and Meredith Veira, to name just a few.

What do you think has helped you the most with your success?

Being authentic and staying true to myself (when people told me I’d have to change my look / accent / stop talking with my hands / my name is too long and/or ethnic, I didn’t follow their advice), following my passion and my heart and not anything else (even turning things down that other people thought I was “crazy” to turn down because it didn’t spark my soul) and not being afraid to take a chance or a risk on myself or try something new, for fear of failure. Also, having a thick skin helps in this industry, LOL…

What has been the biggest challenge you have overcome in order to achieve your goals?

I do feel that I’ve had many challenges (I call them roadblocks which always have detours or ways to get around them) along the way but I use them as learning experiences and opportunities to pivot and/or reinvent. At one point I was too young, now I’m too old… get what I’m saying? You’ll never always be the thing they’re looking for so it’s best to just be yourself.

My challenge was being confident enough to realize this.

What are you most proud of?

I am very proud of the fact that I have overcome bullying, a breast deformity that impacted me emotionally and mentally, a divorce, a near fatal blood clot, the trauma my family experienced after my niece’s ordeal, and a few other things along the way that could have taken me out (literally and physically) but I just keep on keeping on!!!

I’m also proud that I didn’t listen to all the naysayers when I wanted to write a book about bras and help women! Where would I be now if I had listened to them?

As The Bra Expert, I’m living proof that persistence, belief in yourself, and a passion for helping others can truly change everything.

What are three pieces of advice you could give to our readers?

  1. Dig deep and figure out your truth and then stand in that without wavering. What do you really hope to accomplish and get out of life? What is your purpose here? Ask your inner self these hard questions and then don’t let yourself off the hook!
  2. Don’t listen to other people! I’m not saying don’t take advice from someone more seasoned than you who’s generally trying to help, but don’t listen to other people’s opinions of you. What other people think of you is none of your business!
  3. It takes 20 years to become an overnight success. I say that partly joking but it’s true..don’t compare yourself to others who seem to make it look easy or like it happened overnight. It didn’t.

How do you try to make an impact?

I always say if I can inspire or impact one person in a day, I’ve done a good thing. When a woman walks away saying she feels so much better in a different bra or she’s inspired by my journey, that’s my way of making an impact. Uplifting us collectively as women is my mission, inside and out!

How do you reward yourself when you’ve reached a goal or after a hard day of work?

A nice cold glass of prosecco, lol

Jené Luciani Sena’s journey is a testament to resilience, reinvention, and the power of staying true to oneself. From breaking barriers in the intimate apparel industry as The Bra Expert to advocating for women and children, she continues to inspire through her work, words, and unwavering dedication. Whether she’s solving “brablems,” sharing her story on national platforms, or lifting up others, her mission remains clear—to empower women with confidence, comfort, and courage. And at the end of the day, she reminds us all to celebrate our wins, big or small—preferably with a well-earned glass of prosecco. Cheers to that!
