More and more Americans are starting to incorporate holistic practices into their routines to focus on mental health. Sound Bathing, also known as Sound Therapy, is quickly becoming a popular practice in the wellness space.

Like listening to music, every facilitator’s style is different. Participants may feel physical sensations, such as tingling, to emotions and feelings across the spectrum. Often with feelings of peace and even bliss. The beauty of sound bathing is that the vibrations do the work for you, unlike traditional meditation which many feel they are “bad” at. You can’t do it wrong. The vibrations provide you with what you need at that moment.”

Baron adds: “Sound baths commonly unfold into a profound sense of deep stillness and relaxation, often described as “floating on a cloud of sound.” The diverse frequencies guide the mind through a transformative journey, evoking deep meditation, mystical experiences, emotional release, or even inducing restful sleep. How can you practice sound bathing at home? 

If you’re already practicing yoga or other forms of meditation, adding sound bathing to your routine can be beneficial. “I like to liken it to a sacred symphony gently enveloping you in waves of healing vibrations, dissolving the knots of tension and worry that weigh upon your spirits,” Curtis states. “When you’re able to surrender to breath and relaxation, the harmonious melodies and frequencies of the sounds realign our chakras, restore balance and awaken dormant energy in our body.”

However, Sound Baths are not for everyone particularly those who

  • find intense sounds stressful or overstimulating,
  • have migraine with noise triggers,
  • have hearing aids, as the sounds may be uncomfortable
