A few slices of cured meats, wedges of cheese, crackers and a bit of fruit makes a great snack, but you can also make it extravagant with a variety of ingredients. I like to keep some of the main components of the traditional charcuterie board and add others. You don’t need to strictly follow the basic guidelines and can add what your group enjoys.

How to make the best charcuterie Board, from the professional

Ingredients

  • 4 types of crackers
  • Genoa Salami
  • Black Pepper Salami
  • Coppa
  • Prosciutto
  • Spreadable Cheese (I use Boursin Cheese)
  • Smoked Gouda (thin round slices)
  • Brie
  • Manchego
  • Blueberry Cheddar
  • Havarti or Pepper Jack
  • Grapes
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries
  • Strawberries
  • Mini Sweet Peppers
  • Cucumber
  • Green Olives
  • Roasted Almonds
  • Butter Toffee Flavored Cashew Nuts
  • Dried Mango slices
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Dried Apricots
  • Butter (freshly churned honey and lime butter shown)
  • Cream cheese

When putting together a charcuterie board, consider using different types of cheeses with different textures. A sharper and a creamier cheese perhaps. I also like to use at least two types of meats on a board for variety. Fruits add a bright and fun touch of color to the arrangement. Grapes are a pretty popular option, along with berries. To avoid risking the other ingredients, store cut fruits in a separate bowl before adding to your board.

Pro tip:

Be sure to place your crackers next to dry ingredients where they will stay crisp!
