The holidays are here and we’re ready for it! According to House Beautiful, consumers are hyped for the holiday season with online holiday decor search habits up nearly 10 times from previous years and a 37% increase in Christmas tree decor purchases as early as July!
It’s time to create your own joyful, unique space this season. While you may already have some established decor and traditions, don’t be afraid to try something new this year. We’ve put together a list of tips to incorporate holiday decor into your home and celebrate with style! Mix and match the old with the new, the traditional with the eclectic and make the most of your holiday season this year.
One of the most iconic holiday traditions is decorating the Christmas tree. But consider thinking “outside the box” with your tree this year! Limited on space? Opt for multiple small Christmas trees lined up on your mantel, table or shelf. Slimline pencil Christmas trees are ideal space-savers. Artificial twig trees can create a simplistic and modern look in your home this year, plus, twig trees can be kept up all year round.Consider a tree in a minimalist color palette, such as all white with silver ornaments, or decorating with only rose-gold baubles and ribbons. You might even try an uber modern look and opt simply for strands of lights set up in a cone shaped silhouette. Your tree possibilities are endless, don’t be afraid to try something new and different!
PRO TIP: Your tree skirt should completely cover your tree stand without tripping anyone who ventures near the tree. How do you determine the best size? Measure the width of your tree stand as well as your tree. Your tree skirt should be larger than the stand but smaller than the outermost branches. A good rule of thumb is to use a 56” tree skirt for trees that are 9’ and taller, 48” skirts for 7.5’ trees, and 42”- 48” skirts for trees that are 4.5’ to 6.5’ in height.
Menorahs
Lighting the Hanukkah menorah is another iconic holiday tradition. While traditional gold, silver and bronze menorahs are truly beautiful, consider a menorah to match your home decor or personal style. Wooden menorahs crafted from branches or driftwood become the finishing touch for a rustic winter decor theme. Industrial piping creates a rugged, modern menorah. Create a menorah inspired centerpiece by dropping small floating candles into eight tea light holders filled with water; add a single taper candle to the center and voila! From sleek and modern to whimsical and DIY there is a menorah out there to match every decor, interest and personality. Find one that reflects you to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
Oh and don’t forget your candles! While blue and white are the traditional colors of Hanukkah, get your glitz on with some glitter candles. Or go for a subtle textured look with beeswax candles.
